Focus and Concentration: What Is Known and What May Help
General information · not medical advice
Trouble concentrating is usually about sleep, mood, attention habits or a health condition rather than a missing nutrient. This page sets out what is known, then lists products on printed facts.

What concentration problems usually reflect
Attention depends on sleep, mood, blood sugar, hydration and how the task is set up, so poor concentration is often a signal rather than a cause. Brain fog is a description, not a diagnosis, and it commonly tracks back to poor sleep, stress, or an underlying condition.
A clinician looks for causes such as sleep problems, anaemia, thyroid disease, depression, anxiety, long COVID and medication effects.
What mainstream guidance suggests
The NHS advice on tiredness and sleep applies: regular sleep and wake times, daytime daylight and activity, a balanced diet, and less alcohol. Breaking work into short focused blocks with breaks is standard attention practice, and addressing any underlying cause found on assessment comes first.
Where a deficiency in iron, B12 or thyroid hormone is found, it is corrected in a directed way.
What is not established
No supplement is established as improving focus in a healthy person. Omega-3, B vitamins and magnesium help where there is a deficiency and are otherwise unproven, and brain-training products have weak transfer to everyday tasks.
Self-care that is generally suggested
- Protect sleep, and keep a consistent wake time.
- Work in short blocks with planned breaks.
- Daylight and daily movement.
- Steady meals and enough water.
- Less alcohol, and go easy on stimulants.
- See a clinician if concentration problems persist or come with low mood.
When to seek care
See a clinician if concentration problems last more than a few weeks, are getting worse, or come with low mood, memory loss, confusion, a sudden change in speech or movement, headache, or weight loss. A sudden change in alertness or confusion is urgent. Pregnancy, breastfeeding and children under two are reasons to seek advice rather than self-manage.

Products that may help

Every item below is listed on a property printed on the product label - form, grade, active ingredient, size, runtime or ingredient panel. None is listed because of a claim about your symptom, and none is presented as care. Amazon shows the current price on the linked page.
Pick 1
Omega-3 fish oil capsules
The number that matters on a fish oil is the combined EPA and DHA in milligrammes per capsule, not the total fish-oil weight. A certificate of analysis or a named third-party testing programme is the checkable quality marker.
- EPA and DHA in mg per capsule
- Total fish-oil weight not mistaken for omega-3
- Third-party tested or certified batch

Pick 2
Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin)
A B12 product states the form (methylcobalamin, cyanocobalamin or hydroxocobalamin) and the micrograms per serving, often far above the reference intake because absorption is limited. The form and the figure are what you compare.
- Form named (methyl-, cyano- or hydroxocobalamin)
- Micrograms per serving stated
- Sublingual, lozenge or capsule format

Pick 3
Magnesium glycinate capsules
Glycinate binds magnesium to the amino acid glycine, making it a chelated form that many people choose for stomach comfort. The number that matters is elemental magnesium per capsule, because the grams of compound on the front panel include the glycine.
- Elemental magnesium declared per capsule
- Chelated, amino-acid-bound form
- Capsule count and cost per elemental mg

Pick 4
Loose-leaf green tea
Loose leaf is graded on leaf style and origin, and the caffeine in a cup depends on the leaf and the steep. A named origin and a stated leaf grade give you something to compare.
- Named origin and leaf grade
- Caffeine varies with leaf and steep time
- Loose leaf rather than dust

Pick 5
Vitamin D3 drops
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) drops state international units per drop, and the carrier oil decides the taste and the base. The IU per drop and the oil are the label facts.
- IU per drop stated
- Carrier oil named
- Dropper versus spray

Questions
Can a supplement clear brain fog?
No supplement is established for focus in a healthy person. The cause is usually sleep, mood, stress or a health condition, which is why assessment comes before another bottle.
What is brain fog?
A description of slow or fuzzy thinking, not a diagnosis. It commonly tracks back to poor sleep, stress or an underlying condition that a clinician can look for.
